I know it's your style and everything, but the little ______ at the end of your haikus bothers me. It creates a sense of consistency, but it also seems pretty repetitive and somewhat arrogant. But I still like them! hah
As I mentioned in a previous post, the "little ____" is a mark of haiku that I wrote a little less than a year ago.
"It creates a sense of consistency, but it also seems pretty repetitive and somewhat arrogant."
Here you have stumbled upon something I did intentionally as I am a bit of a punk: One of the fundamental pillars of traditional haiku---which the "little ____" haiku so closely resemble-- is that you should never condescend nature. Well I do, and that makes a statement about traditional haiku, and poetry’s place in modern society in accord with modern philosophies and sentiments.
I discovered haiku in the summer of 2004 while browsing poetry forums. Since then I kept a little journal of my haiku and in winter of 2005/6 I started other writings i.e.- short story, prose, and poetry. All my writing essentially centers around haiku. All my haiku are 5-7-5 syllables.
